James Hardeman

James C. (Jim) Hardeman

Mr. Hardeman serves as Manager of the Environmental Radiation Program in the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, a position he has held since 1982.  His responsibilities include management of environmental radiation monitoring, radiological emergency preparedness and response, and low-level radioactive waste permitting programs for the State of Georgia.

Mr. Hardeman holds a Bachelor of Nuclear Engineering degree and a Masters of Science in Nuclear Engineering degree, both from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, Georgia.

Mr. Hardeman currently serves on the Homeland Security Committee of the Health Physics Society (HPS) and the Emergency Response Planning Committee of the Conference of Radiation Control Program Directors, Inc. (CRCPD).  He previously chaired the CRCPD Emergency Response Planning Committee, the American Nuclear Society (ANS) Environmental Sciences Division and the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB) Radioactive Waste Transportation Committee.  Mr. Hardeman is also active in local HPS and ANS chapters in the Atlanta area.

An Alternate Commissioner since June, 1985, Mr. Hardeman currently chairs the Policy and Planning Committee. Mr. Hardeman previously served on the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) during the Commission’s effort to site a low-level radioactive waste disposal facility.
